Further into the tunnel we come to an obstacle.  The wooden timbers to the right come from an inclined shaft that drops down from the hillside above and intersects our tunnel.  The problem is that this shaft drops right through the floor of our tunnel and continues on down into the mountain.  So at this point timbers have been placed over the gaping shaft.  They don't inspire confidence and to make matters worse, dirt and rocks have found their way down the shaft to give this walkway a steep camber that tilts toward the dark mouth below.
